Kingfisher Financial NE Regional PS Ulster Singles Cup In Table Tennis

Record school numbers attend the NE Regional PS Ulster Schools’ Singles Cup.

The 26th March 2026 proved a busy day at the NE Regional table tennis singles with 81 pupils  trying to win one of the four events contested in Ballymoney Elim Church. There was a good spread of winners on the day and the quality of the table tennis on display was of a high standard. Well done to NE coach Francis Shirley for his dedication to coaching table tennis in the schools in the North East.

The two main events, the U12 Boys and U12 Girls Singles events were won by won by Rasharkin PS’s Toby Green and Ballymoney Model PS’s Amelia Adams, respectively.. The Under 12 Boys Plate was won by Castledawson PS’s Thomas Hurl. Armoy PS’s Sarah Jamison won the Girls’ U12 Plate.

The U10 Boys event was won by top seed Will Agnew from The Irish Society PS. Sophie Warwick  also from the Irish Society took the Girls’ title. The Boys’ U10 Plate was won by St Patrick’s & St Brigid’s PS’s Cillian McAuley with  St Patrick’s St Brigid’s PS’s pupil Saoirse McKeown winning the Girls’ U10 Plate.,.

A big thank you to our sponsors Kingfisher Financial for supporting Ulster Schools’ Primary Schools table tennis. Thanks also goes to all the players for attending the event, all the teachers, parents, TTU officials, Ballymoney TTC members. Coleraine West TTC members and Ballymena TTC members who helped on the day. Thanks to Jimmy at the top table for his sterling contribution on the day and the small dedicated group of volunteers who ensured that the event took place by sourcing tables from various locations, setting up each table tennis court with umpire tables, chairs and scoreboards to make the event a memorable experience. Thanks also goes to Ballymoney Elim Church for allowing us the use of their premises to host the event. And sadly TTU says a “bon voyage” to Patrick Campbell who leaves for pastures new next week. Thanks for your friendship, advice and hard work throughout the season and wishing nothing but good fortune for the future.

A record number of fifteen primary schools were involved at the event which pays tribute to Table Tennis Ulster’s continued emphasis on increased participation. Hopefully a bright future beckons for our sport.
