PRIMARY SCHOOL TEAMS EVENT

Article Posted

February 10, 2025

The 6th February 2025 proved a busy day in Ulster Schools’ Cup Primary Schools table tennis with 169 pupils in 42 teams trying to win one of the six events contested in Banbridge Leisure Centre. There was a good spread of winners with the two main events, the U12 Boys and U12 Girls team events won by Strandtown PS, Belfast and The Irish Society PS, Coleraine respectively. Both Strandtown PS and The Irish Society PS will now represent Ulster in the All- Ireland finals in the National Indoor Arena in Dublin on the 8th April. The Under 12 Boys Plate was won by Strandtown C.

The U10 Boys event was won by The Irish Society and Ballydown A won the U10 Girl’s event. Edenderry won the U10 Boys’ Plate event.

Edenderry PS won the U12 Mixed team event with the under 10 Mixed team event won by Rockcorry NS from County Monaghan.,.

A big thank you Emma O’Hagan from our sponsors Kingfisher Financial for presenting the medals on the day. Thanks also goes to all the players for attending the event, all the teachers, parents, TTU officials, Leisure Centre staff and the small dedicated group of volunteers who ensured that the event took place by sourcing tables from various locations, setting up each table tennis court with umpire tables, chairs and scoreboards to make the event a memorable experience.

The record number of fourteen primary school’s involved at the event pays tribute to Table Tennis Ulster’s continued emphasis on increased participation and hopefully a bright future beckons for our sport. Special mention to the new schools that attended this year, namely, All Children’s IPS,  St Columbans, Our Lady’s and St Patricks and Mullaglass PSs. A few schools were missing that played last year: St Ronan’s Newry and Annsborough IPS you were missed.
