Having fun, making friends & enjoying table tennis at the Ulster Individual Championships in Lisburn.

The 2023 Ulster Schools Individual Cup finals were held in Lisburn record with a record 261 table tennis players from 26 secondary schools from all over Ulster taking part. All the results are given below and congratulations to all the winners.

As Ulster Schools Table Tennis Association Secretary and tournament Referee, I would like to thank all the teachers and coaches who work hard behind the scenes, back in their schools promoting and facilitating the sport. Too many to mention here but thank you and may your involvement long continue.

The Table Tennis Ulster Executive deserve great credit in placing participation top of their priorities and this year’s tournament paid tribute to the success of their endeavours with entries almost doubled from last year. Well done.

There is a lot of hard work setting up the event with additional table tennis tables having to be transported in to augment the existing tables in Lisburn. Then the tables, umpire tables, surrounds seat, scoreboards have to be set up after 10pm the night before the event and then hauled away in the hours after the event. Without the graft of these volunteers this event would not happen. So, thank you all.

The top table volunteers who literally spend hours upon hours arranging for all schools to receive invites to the finals and then preparing all the paperwork necessary for running the 16 events and then work arduously on the day to make each event a success. Thanks for your work and dedication.

And last but not least and big thank you to all the staff at Lisburn Racquets for catering to all our needs.

See you all next year DV.

Norman McBride
USTTA Secretary
